THE JOHN PENNY BAND ENTERTAINS AT
HAMPSTEAD’S
MEETINGHOUSE
PARK
SUMMER MUSIC SERIES
Hampstead,
NH, -- 22 June 2006 – The award-winning Country and Western group, the John
Penny Band, entertained a crowd of about 150 people on Tuesday night,
June 20th, at
Hampstead’s Meetinghouse Park Summer Music Series.
Featuring a with a wide range of music styles, the band played
classic country songs as ‘Honky Tonk Attitude’, ‘Boot Scootin’
Boogie’, and ‘Take Me Back to Tulsa’. Mr. Penny interspersed popular
tunes such as ‘Act Naturally’, ‘Rock Around the Clock’, and
‘Cab Driver’, and the late Stevie Ray Vaughn’s ‘House is a Rockin’.
The crowd joined in with a sing-along on ‘Don’t Fence Me In’.
The band was joined on two sets and the encore by female vocalist
and Massachusetts CMA Association Gallery of Greats inductee Jilly Martin.
Jilly performed on such country hits as ‘Looking at Cuountry’,
‘Walkin’ after Midnight’, and ‘Cowboy’s Sweetheart’.
The band also performed a tribute to the late Johnny Cash, with a
medley of ‘Walk the Line’, ‘Ring of Fire’ and ‘Folsom Prison’.
The John Penny Band has numerous achievements, including being named
the best Five Piece Band by the Massachusetts Country Music Association
for four consecutive years, winner of the award for the Best Country Album
Released in 1998, and induction into the "The Hall Of Greats" by
the Mass. CMA in 2000. As a tribute to the band, May 21, 1984 was
proclaimed “John Penny Day” by then governor Michael Dukakis of
Massachusetts

, is the site of a series of free musical concerts during the summer of
2006. The program is sponsored by the Hampstead Cable TV Advisory Board
and is open to the public. Admission and parking are free,
and all are invited. Lawn chairs or blankets and appropriate clothing are
recommended. Concerts are rain or shine.
